pro-choice
(x-posted on my myspace blog.)
almost 2 years ago, in march of 2004, i traveled with some friends to washington dc for the march for women's lives. according to its organizers, this march was record-breaking with estimates around 1 million in attendance. even 2 years later, i remember the day well and think i will forever. i was interviewed twice, once for a san diego public access show mostly because i made a sign that said "TERRORIST --->" and stood next to the anti-choice folk with their blown up images of aborted fetuses with the arrow pointing at them. as i stood there my blood pulsed and my heart swelled with such intensity i felt as though id just won a marathon. passing women cheered me on and took photos. it was nothing short of amazing.
but now, as i reflect back, i wonder what impact we really made? bush was re-elected, our reproductive rights are still in danger. yes, we made a statement, but was it loud enough?
i dunno.
but if roe v wade ever does get overturned and women start dying from botched illegal abortions i will lose the smidgen of faith in this country that still remains.
2008 cannot come fast enough.
